Chapter 3 – He Was Wronged

Although Shu Ning explained that his injury had nothing to do with the villain, his classmates didn’t believe it.

The female classmate said, “Zhang Chao saw him. It was him that pushed you.”

In the stairwell at that time, the only witness was Zhang Chao. After the incident, Shu Ning was hospitalized, and Zhang Chao announced that it was the villain who pushed Shu Ning.

“Shu Ning’s too kindhearted. Even now, he’s still protecting Yin Mingzheng.”

Shu Ning subconsciously turned his head to look at the little villain in the last row. The little villain lay quietly on the table. The clear winter sun was shining on his mop of yellow hair.

The villain’s appearance was very good-looking. His skin was snow-white. After dyeing his hair bright yellow, his skin seemed even whiter. Unfortunately, his hair was really too ugly. It looked like a bird’s nest atop his head, both long and sticking every which way. It looked even worse than those early 2000’s non-mainstream hairstyles.

No matter how good-looking he was, there was no saving that hairstyle.

Plus, the way he dressed was a problem, he walked in a careless manner, and he very much looked like a full-fledged gangster. He usually maintained a standoffish attitude towards others, so, gradually, everyone came to dislike him.

Shu Ning’s grades weren’t very good, and the villain was placed last in the whole grade. After entering the same junior high, the two bad students were placed in the same class.

Shu Ning remembered that when they first started primary school, the villain was in the same class as him. Perhaps because he had never had the chance to go to preschool, he was very enthusiastic about going to school and studied hard. He seemed to really cherish the opportunity to learn and his grades were pretty good. He had even been complimented by the teachers for it.

Shu Ning still remembered the little villain standing on the podium, holding a certificate of merit, with a radiant look on his face.

But having good grades didn’t really mean anything. Discrimination was everywhere. Even the teachers didn’t like him very much. After all, there were too many rumors about him. His father had even been to prison and was a well-known gangster.

By the fourth and fifth grades, the villain’s studies couldn’t keep up anymore, and his grades fell to the bottom. In addition, a lot of other things had happened, so, by the sixth grade, the villain had already become last in the whole grade.

Seriously speaking, Shu Ning and the villain had a lot of serendipity. If he had started nurturing the villain from when he first transmigrated, the villain wouldn’t have become what he is now.

It was just too bad he lost his memory…

Why did he have to lose his memory?

Shu Ning wrung his hands.

“Some people in the class are just bad apples, they ruin the whole bunch!” Zhang Chao raised his voice, as if he was afraid the villain wouldn’t be able to hear him. “I’m just saying, some people not only have bad grades but they’re also always causing trouble. Those kinds of people should’ve dropped out a long time ago.”

The little villain was sleeping soundly at his desk. It seemed as though he didn’t hear what Zhang Chao said.

Shu Ning suddenly stood up and spoke solemnly to the people around him, “This has nothing to do with Yin Mingzheng. It’s my problem.”

Everyone was stunned.

“A couple days ago, Zhang Chao told me that Yin Mingzheng was spreading rumors about me, the rumor about me being gay. I went to confront Yin Mingzheng, and he ignored me. So, I pulled at him and accidentally fell down the stairs.”

“That’s the truth. Also, I realized that the so-called rumor wasn’t spread by Yin Mingzheng. As for who spread it…”

Shu Ning glanced at Zhang Chao indifferently and said to the classmates, “I already have an idea who it is.”

He pushed back his chair and walked over to Yin Mingzheng in the last row. Yin Mingzheng was still lying on the table, his back hunched, revealing two distinct shoulder blades.

“Yin Mingzheng.” Shu Ning tapped his shoulder.

Yin Mingzheng remained motionless, as if he had fallen asleep.

But Shu Ning knew that he definitely hadn’t fallen asleep. With such a big commotion, who could possibly fall asleep?

He just didn’t want to pay him any attention.

Shu Ning didn’t give up and continued to tap him on the shoulder. The little villain kept ignoring him, so he continued to tap him. Finally, the little villain couldn’t bear it any longer and raised his head. He sat up straight, his face gloomy, and spat out impatiently, “Get lost!”

What a bad temper.

Everyone around them was startled.

Yin Mingzheng’s face was full of anger, and he looked incredibly irritated. Everyone was afraid that he would lose control and hurt someone.

If it was the Shu Ning from before, he would have definitely been frightened and backed off. He wouldn’t have had the guts to go up and talk to him. However, the Shu Ning right now had the soul of an adult. An edgy seventh-grade kid was nothing to him.

“Are you awake?” Shu Ning grinned, unaffected.

The little villain started shaking his leg. He tilted his head, side-eyed him, and asked roughly, “What do you want?”

Shu Ning’s eyes twitched. He hated it when people shook their legs.

But the little villain seemed to think that shaking his leg looked cool and threatening. He was shaking his leg so vigorously that the chair and desk were rattling along with him.

He really was asking for a beating.

Shu Ning resisted the urge to press his thigh down and bent down deeply. He apologized sincerely, “What happened earlier was my fault, I’m sorry! I want to apologize to you!”

The rattling desk and chair suddenly stopped. The little villain stopped shaking his legs. His beautiful eyes widened, and he looked stunned. After a while, he sneered and started shaking his leg like his life depended on it. “Crazy bastard!”

His leg shaking was almost impressive.

Shu Ning took a deep breath and secretly said to himself: I have to correct this bad habit of his in the future.

“I apologize.”

Shu Ning repeated himself one more time and strode back to his seat.

Shu Ning’s actions made all the classmates look at each other in dismay. The people who had come to comfort him suddenly didn’t know what to say, so they silently dispersed and returned to their seats. Zhang Chao’s expression was very strange, and he kept sneaking peeks at Shu Ning.

Shu Ning opened the textbook and ignored him.

Ding dong.

Time for class.

This period was English class. Shu Ning used to be a top student, and he also worked as a part-time tutor in college. He hadn’t forgotten the basics. He could already remember most of the concepts just by flipping through the textbook.

Grade 7 Class 3 was full of bad students. Thinking of how the villain was placed last in the whole grade, Shu Ning thought about finding an opportunity to give him make-up lessons.

In the novel, the little villain didn’t know English. After being recognized by the Wei family, he was ridiculed by his peers. The Wei family also felt that his ineptitude was too embarrassing.

Didn’t that fake young master, Wei Ximing, speak six languages?

Shu Ning decided to have the villain learn English first. That way, the villain wouldn’t seem too shabby in comparison.

Calculating the time they had left, there should be about three more years until the little villain would be taken back to the Wei family.

Shu Ning also considered whether he should find a way for the villain to return to the Wei family earlier. After all, his current family situation was really horrible.

In order to reveal the truth about the real young master, he would need to contact the Wei family, who were thousands of miles away in the capital. How could he get in touch with them? And how was he supposed to convince them to conduct a paternity test?

Shu Ning was thinking about his future plans all the way up until school let out. He didn’t speak a single word to his seatmate.

Zhang Chao had been watching him the entire time, but Shu Ning didn’t pay him any mind.

After school, Zhang Chao finally couldn’t help himself and asked in a low voice, “Do you know?”

Shu Ning was slightly startled. He did not answer.

Zhang Chao said, “You’ve been ignoring me since you came back from the hospital. Did someone say something?”

Shu Ning thought for a second. Then, he glowered at him and started bluffing, “There’s no such thing as an airtight wall.”

Zhang Chao was stunned for a while. Then, he lowered his head and said, “I’m sorry, I was the one who spread the rumor.”

Shu Ning had already guessed as much. Now that it was confirmed, he was very angry. “I want to know why.”

“It was just a joke.” Zhang Chao rushed to explain, “I was just talking to a couple of people and said it casually. I didn’t think they would actually take it seriously and spread it all over the place … I really didn’t mean it.”

Shu Ning raised his eyebrows. “Then why did you frame Yin Mingzheng? And also try to instigate a fight between us?”

Zhang Chao’s face flushed. He didn’t have an explanation. “I’m sorry.”

“You’re sorry?” Shu Ning pointed to his head, which was still covered in gauze. “I got injured and had to stay in the hospital, and all you have to say is sorry?”

Zhang Chao was starting to lose his patience, “I said sorry, what else do you want?”

Shu Ning was stunned.

Zhang Chao added, “Besides, you’re the one who went to confront him, and you’re the one who fell down the stairs all by yourself. What’s it got to do with me?”

Shu Ning: “…”

Shu Ning was shocked by his confidence. Zhang Chao really didn’t think he did anything wrong.

“I already apologized, but you still won’t let it go. What’s with your attitude? You act like I was the one who pushed you or something. It was just a joke. I didn’t mean to spread rumors. What more do you want?”

Shu Ning: “…”

Shu Ning didn’t say anything. He walked out of the classroom and quickly made his way to  the office to find their homeroom teacher.

Their homeroom teacher had been organizing her desk. When she saw Shu Ning, she smiled, “Shu Ning, what’s the matter?”

“Ma’am, I want to change seats.” Shu Ning said straightforwardly.

His homeroom teacher was puzzled. “Why do you suddenly want to change seats?”

Shu Ning said, “Zhang Chao’s not a good person.”

Once classes ended, there were more teachers in the office. They all turned their heads when they heard Shu Ning’s words.

His homeroom teacher pushed up the glasses on her face, “Shu Ning, you can’t slander your classmates at will.”

“Ma’am, the rumor about me being gay was spread by Zhang Chao. He just admitted it himself. Plus, he even shifted the blame onto Yin Mingzheng and encouraged me to fight with him. Earlier in the office, he kept dropping hints to frame Yin Mingzheng…”

Shu Ning explained the entire chain of events in a clear and coherent manner, “He has a grudge against Yin Mingzheng, so he tried to use me to deal with him. He even spread rumors about me. Being seatmates with this kind of person makes me uneasy.”

His words shocked the teachers in the office.

“Are you telling the truth?” The homeroom teacher sat on the swivel chair with a serious expression.

“He just admitted it earlier, but, if you were to ask him, he definitely won’t confess.” Shu Ning said, “Either way, I’m not going to sit at the same desk as him.”

The homeroom teacher pinched her nose bridge, “If you switch seats now …”

“Zhong Xiaoming never wanted to sit next to Yin Mingzheng. He’s got a good relationship with Zhang Chao. Maybe I can switch seats with Zhong Xiaoming,” Shu Ning said.

Nobody in the class liked the villain, and nobody wanted to sit at the same desk as him. Zhong Xiaoming had complained about it a couple of times.

The head teacher was slightly taken aback, “You want to share a desk with Yin Mingzheng?”

Shu Ning grinned and said confidently, “Yes.”
